The Novice Investigator & the K-II Meter
There are NO experts in this field of paranormal science. It’s something we, the living, don’t really know a whole lot about. I haven’t seen where anyone has asked the deceased for all the answers and actually received even one answer. It is the unknown, so we must try to figure out what we can use, and what IS known to help us figure out the unknown.

It's banging red, that must be proof! Right?
The K-II meter is a device that picks up electromagnetic fields. The higher the milligauss, chances are you will have more colorful lights glowing on your meter.
What I am staring to see more and more are claims from groups that a place is haunted, but they base it on basically nothing. The most important thing to do when you go on an investigation is put your common sense hat on. I think this is lacking in the common investigation nowadays. You have to be able to troubleshoot, debunk and figure things out.
Truthfully, quite a bit of non-pararnormal occurances happening nowadays are being called paranormal .This is making it hard for the common sense investigators to break into this field and make it a solid science. Maybe it will never be a solid science. Maybe it’s never meant for the living to completely figure out. Still it seems common sense is running away from the paranormal field.
There is a misconception in the parnormal field that KII hits are ghosts, dead people waving their hands to get your attention. A lot of times it’s just normal random EMF of the home or facility that is being investigated. One of the biggest causes of glowing K-II lights is radio frequency interference (RF) . If you get solid strength it may be EMF. If you get flickering, or a weak blinking pattern it most likely is RF. If you get a K-II hit, let’s say every 11 minutes for example, same strength and the pattern seems to continue…it’s obviously nothing paranormal. Always check your cell phone in your pocket. Your cell phone needs to be off. Always remember-if you use walkies, they can cause RF interference. Too many times I have seen K-II meters light up and it was all due to a cellphone or a walkie. Cellphones need to be turned off or in airplane mode while investigating. So as you can see there is a thought process that needs to go along with every glowing K-II light.
If you research, there are many tools out there you can use to determine RF from EMF.
If you get a K-II hit, you better try your hardest to figure it out. If you truly feel you have something paranormal going on with your K-II meter, you better back it up with other evidence before you even think of calling a place haunted. The less you research and debunk, the more false positives. The more false positives, the further you are from solving one of the living’s greatest mysteries- What happens when we die?

i definitely agree! Too many novice paranormal investigators rely too much on the k2 meter during their paranormal investigations without having any sufficient evidence to back up the readings on the k2. They ask a question and see a quick blink on the k2 and seem to get overly excited, then after the investigation is over they my explain to their client that questions were answered when asked during the investigation and it was only an RF interference. They need to back up these claims with feelings, temperature fluctuations, evps, thermal readings, or other sources that happen at the time of the “responses”. Just like the novice and the k2 there are also issues with the novice and orbs!! Too many claim dust and bugs are orbs and allow themselves to present this as evidence without truly debunking these claims!! Integrity during investigations is of utmost importance!! With this being said, I agree with this post 110% It’s a much needed post for the novice investigator!
(on a side note, i love how DGH has grown, succeeded, and sustained since its inception in ’05!! Congrats!! )
